Modoc

Modoc

Modoc is a 5.5 mile in and out style intermediate trail with advanced opportunities. The terrain changes along this trail make it one of the most interesting trails in the area. This trail follows the Stevens Creek corridor.

A rocky downhill followed by a drop off a rock to a very difficult creek crossing make for a fun but introduction to this trail. The first 3.5 miles of this trail are the hardest. You will encounter the most challenging crossings and climbs on this portion. Once you reach 5.5 miles out there is a sustained climb along a doubletrack. The trail ends in a cul-de-sac at the end of a forestry road. You can either rid the trail back or take the forestry road to an intersection and turn left. Keep left on this road and it will terminate in a cul-de-sac with a trail input to the 2 mile marker.

There are rocks, roots, switchbacks, creek crossings, and deep dips as you make your way along the trail.

Don’t forget to stop when you are high on the ridge above Stevens Creek and enjoy the view. In May, native white spider lilies (Hymenocallis coronaria) are often abundant in sections of this trail.
