South Carolina Connector Routes

Connectors

Connector routes chain together multiple trails for a more challenging ride. These routes may use a combination of paved and gravel or pavel roads to allow you to link two or more trails. Use caution when attempting these rides. South Carolina summers may make these longer rides especially dangerous. Many of these routes have limited cell coverage and limited physical access. These routes are best attempted in a group with extra resources. If you chose to attempt one of these routes alone please make sure someone is aware of your start time, start location, estimated end time and your route.

Modoc/Turkey Creampuff Loop: 32 mile loop connecting the Modoc and Turkey Creek Trails.

Modoc/Turkey/Wine Creampuff Loop: 40 mile loop bringing together Modoc, Turkey Creak, and Wine Creek trails.

Modoc/Turkey/Wine Lollipop: 42 mile ride that includes Wine Creek as an out and back in the Modoc/Turkey Creampuff route.

The Connector: 44 mile ride chaining Modoc and Turkey Creek as an out and back style route.

The Connector with Special Sauce: 54 mile ride that adds Wine Creek to the Connector route.

The Dark Star Loop: 65 mile grand loop linking Horn Creek, Wine Creek, Turkey Creek, and Modoc trails. This loop begins and ends with Horn Creek.

Modoc/Turkey Creampuff Loop

Directions are for riding the loop clockwise, starting at the Modoc Trailhead on HWY-23.

  1. Ride Modoc trail
  2. At the end of Modoc follow the carsonite posts out to FS-652A/Pinochet road
  3. Proceed along FS-652A/Pinochet road
  4. Turn right onto FS-632/Silcox road
  5. Turn right onto Washington School road
  6. Follow Washington School road past Modoc speedway
  7. Turn right onto Mt Lebanon Church road
  8. Turn right onto Price’s Mill road
  9. Turn right onto FS-617
  10. Turn right onto FS-617A
  11. Proceed to the end of FS-617A
  12. Turkey Creek will be to your 10 O’clock in the cul-de-sac
  13. Ride Turkey Creek
  14. At the end of the trail turn right and proceed across a large pedestrian bridge
  15. Follow the gravel road to it’s end at Key road
  16. Turn right onto Key road
  17. Turn right onto Cold Springs road
  18. Turn right onto HWY-23
  19. Proceed down HWY-23
  20. Modoc trailhead will be on your right

Modoc/Turkey/Wine Creampuff Loop

  18. Turn right onto Turkey road/FW-621
  19. Turn left onto Key road
  20. Turn right onto Cold Springs road
  21. Turn right onto HWY-23
  22. Proceed down HWY-23
  23. Modoc trailhead will be on your right

Modoc/Turkey/Wine Lollipop

Directions are starting at the Wine Creek trailhead and riding the loop clockwise.

  17. Turn around and ride back the way you came

The Dark Star Loop

Directions are for riding the loop counter clockwise, starting in Lick Fork Lake Recreation Area at the Horn Creek trailhead.

Route Map

  1. Ride the Horn Creek trail going counter clockwise from the parking area at the lake
  2. Turn left onto the first gravel road the trail crosses
  3. Turn left onto the next gravel road
  4. Proceed along this road until it turns to pavement and takes you out of Lick Fork
  5. Turn right onto HWY-230 and go .4 mile
  6. Turn left to cross HWY-23 stay on HWY-230
  7. Proceed in front of the Westside Volunteer Fire Department
  8. Proceed another 1.2 miles and cross Red Hill road
  9. Proceed past Red Hill Farm on left
  10. Turn left onto gravel road signed Delaughter road. You have gone too far if you are on HWY-23 going towards Edgefield.
  11. Proceed to the end of the road
  12. Turn left onto FS-625.
  13. Proceed for 3.2 miles to Key road
  14. Turn right onto Key road
  15. Proceed for a few hundred yards
  16. Turn right onto FS-621/Turkey road
  17. Proceed for 3.7 miles to the end of the road
  18. Turn left onto HWY-283.
  19. Proceed about 2 miles
  20. You will ride over Turkey Creek and enter McCormick County
  21. Turn left into Wine Creek Trailhead
  22. Ride the Wine Creek Trail
  23. Proceed across Key road and Turn left down the doubletrack
  24. Just before the pedestrian bridge enter the Turkey Creek Trail on the right
  25. Ride Turkey Creek until it ends at a cul-de-sac on FS-617A
  26. Proceed down FS-617A
  27. Turn left onto FS-617
  28. Proceed to paved road
  29. Turn left onto Price’s Mill Road
  30. Cross Stevens Creek
  31. Turn left onto Mt Lebanon Church road immediately after you cross Stevens Creek
  32. Proceed to the end of the road
  33. Turn left onto Washington School road
  34. Proceed past Modoc Speedway
  35. The road will transition to gravel/dirt
  36. Turn left onto FS-632 Silcox road. If you cross railroad tracks you have gone too far.
  37. Turn left onto FS-632A Pinchot road
  38. Follow this all the way to the cul-de-sac
  39. Look for carsonite post at about 10 o’clock on the cul-de-sac
  40. follow the arrows on the carsonite posts
  41. You will ride over a mound and find a distinct clearing/trail
  42. Follow the posts, you’ll go right to the edge of the power line clearing, but not in or across it
  43. Shortly after you turn away from the power lines you hit a fast downhill, the Modoc trail will be on your right at the bottom
  44. Turn right onto the Modoc trail
  45. Ride Modoc to end on HWY-23
  46. Turn left onto HWY-23.
  47. Turn right onto Morgan drive
  48. Turn right onto Red Oak Grove road
  49. Turn left onto Garret road
  50. Turn left onto Sprouse road
  51. Turn right onto Key road
  52. Turn left onto HWY-230/Martintown road
  53. Turn right into the Quail Habitat Area
  54. Turn right onto the Horn Creek trail at the bottom of a hill
  55. Finish riding the Horn Creek loop counter clockwise
