SORBA-CSRA is a 100% volunteer supported organization and we need your help! Every volunteer hour in every capacity counts towards helping us continue to maintain the great trails you enjoy and explore opportunities for new and exciting additions. In a typical year our regular volunteers, trail tread team, and chainsaw team put in 1,500 hours of volunteer work.

Trail Work

Trail work is a huge part of SORBA-CSRA’s trail advocacy. If you ride trails in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA), chances are they are maintained by SORBA-CSRA volunteers. We maintain more than 100 miles of trails within the CSRA. In addition, we work with area land managers on projects that will bring more opportunities to our trail users.

Everyone is welcome to help on trail work days. We have the tools and equipment, we just need the manpower! We’ll teach you how to safely use the tools and equipment and pair you up with an experienced work partner.

Almost every weekend from mid-June through September we conduct trail foliage maintenance work parties. This work is vital to keep the trails user friendly for all trail users during the heavy growing season.

Primarily in the late fall, winter and early spring members of our trail tread team work on areas along all the trails that need routine cleaning/deberming and areas that need more extensive work due to damage or erosion. Most of the trail tread team are formally trained but they are always eager to train new volunteers who want to join the team.

Our USFS Certified sawyers work year-round to keep trails clear of fallen trees.

Events

Events like the FATS Flowmaster, Tour de FATS, National Trails Day, Explore the Trails Rides, and others are another way to get involved. You’ll be helping out and having fun at the same time. Events like these build community and in the case of FATS Flowmaster raise funds for the chapter that are reinvested in our trails. From new tools to materials, every dollar we raise goes directly back into improving trails in our area. Volunteering at events is a great way to give back and make a difference. Want to know more?

Chapter Operations

We also rely on volunteers to help with the regular operations of the chapter including marketing, membership, finance, tool and equipment maintenance, and many other activities. Members will be educated on specific duties and responsibilities. Interested in serving in a capacity that best utilizes your expertise? Think you can help SORBA-CSRA?

An added bonus to getting involved is the opportunity to hang out with other amazing volunteers from our mountain biking and running communities.
