What a phenomenal day on the trail with a true dream team of volunteers. They were absolutely on fire.
While many of today’s volunteers have years of trail-building and trail-maintenance experience, we were also excited to welcome a new volunteer to the crew.
We intentionally saved two of the hardest-hit sections of Tower Trail for this week when we knew we would have plenty of talent on hand. Both sections are now complete.
Today, teams spread out across the forest and knocked out 16 projects. These weren’t easy projects either. By the end of the day, every project on today’s list, including a couple of wish-list items, had been completed.
Out of the original 244 projects identified on Tower Trail, we are now down to just 17 remaining projects.
The final rootball extraction wasn’t particularly large, actually fairly small by our standards, but it held on tenaciously and took more than an hour to remove. Fortunately, we’ve been packing cold Gatorade into the woods for a mid-work-party break. It was definitely needed today as the crew pushed through four hours of hard work to get everything wrapped up.

We hope to wrap up this phase of rootball extraction and tread restoration next week. We currently have Tuesday and Wednesday work parties penciled in. If you’re available and would like to help finish this incredible effort, let us know and we’ll add you to the list.
17 projects to go.
