BIG ROCK TRAIL UPDATE!

Wow. Our trail community really came through!

On Wednesday, we were concerned we might have to pick a side of Big Rock Trail and only cut and trim half of it. We had just seven volunteers signed up.

But then our awesome trail community rallied! People set aside their Saturday plans, showed up, and went to work. And what a difference it made!

Not only did we get Big Rock Trail completely finished, but we also had a DR mower retrim the top of Tower Trail. That section was cut just before Tower Trail reopened following Hurricane Helene, but that was before we entered the annual foliage maintenance season, so it was definitely ready for some additional attention.

And one of our USFS-certified sawyers joined us as well. So all remaining trees down on Tower Trail, along with three more trees on Big Rock Trail have been cut and cleared!

To top it all off, Mother Nature lent a hand with cooler temperatures and an overcast sky. It was a pretty great way to wrap up our annual foliage maintenance work at FATS!

There will be a little more tidying up on FATS in October as we get ready for the FATS Flow Master (October 19th)and FATS 50K(November 1), so keep an eye out for those work party announcements.

Many, many thanks to these Trail Warriors!

But our foliage maintenance season isn’t quite over yet!

August 29 – Mistletoe State Park Trails
We’ll be working on the portions of these trails that are currently open doing foliage maintenance.

September 19 – Hickory Knob State Park Trails
We’ll move over to Hickory Knob to tackle the annual foliage maintenance on those trails as well.

We’d love to have our Trail Community step up and help us close out the season strong!

Once again, when our community of riders, runners and hikers comes together, great things can happen. And Saturday was a perfect example of that!
